2023 in Review: Milestones & Learnings
Expanding the Directory & Merchant Base
- We onboarded dozens of new restaurants, cafés, and food merchants across Valletta, Sliema, Gozo, Marsaxlokk, St. Julian’s and beyond.
- Our directory categories expanded: from Maltese & Mediterranean cuisine to sushi, tapas, fine dining, burgers, and more.
- We launched HubpyMerchantTech tools — digital menus, ordering integrations, and merchant support.
Growing Engagement & Awareness
- Our YouTube channel “HubpyMT Food & Leisure” grew its audience, featuring local food tours, interviews, behind-the-scenes visits. YouTube
- Our social channels (Instagram via ENTRTN, Twitter as @hubpyMT) deepened their storytelling — local food scenes, merchant spotlights, tech offers. Instagram+1
- We ran promotional offers (e.g. free digital menu & tech consultation) to support small businesses in Malta. X (formerly Twitter)
Building the Tech Backbone
- We improved our platform’s search, filters, UX, and mobile responsiveness to better serve users looking for food in Malta.
- We made strides in streamlining how merchants list, update menus, and manage visibility.
- We learned a lot: merchant pain points, seasonal trends (summer peaks, winter lulls), and user behavior around ordering, discovery, and reviews.
Challenges & Lessons
- Merchant adoption lag: Some small businesses were slower to adopt digital tools—so training and trust building were essential.
- Seasonal volatility: Tourism-driven months see spikes; off-peak months test retention.
- Content and SEO demands: To rank for “Malta food”, “best Maltese restaurant”, etc., we needed consistent high-value content, local SEO, and strategic linking.
All of these lessons prepared us for what’s next.
2024 Ambitions: Charting the Year Ahead
1. “Wish You Success 2024” — Our Motto & Mission
We want 2024 to be a year of shared success—for you (users, foodies), our merchant partners, and Team HubpyMalta. We’re rooting for everyone’s growth.
2. Deeper YouTube & Content Strategy
- Launch a weekly video series: “Malta Bites”, “Merchant Spotlight”, “Food Tech Tales.”
- Collaborate with chefs, food influencers, and local tourism boards to bring fresh narratives.
- Cross-promote content with blogs, SEO pages, and social media for traffic synergy.
3. Merchant Tools Upgrade
- Roll out an advanced digital menu editor, ordering widget, and feedback module.
- Offer training webinars for merchants to get the most out of online tools.
- Introduce merchant analytics dashboards so they see which items attract clicks/orders.
4. Community & Local Engagement
- Host pop-up events, food walks, tastings across neighborhoods to bring the directory into real life.
- Run contest campaigns (“Best Maltese Dish 2024”, “Hidden Gem Café”) to encourage local sharing and buzz.
- Encourage user reviews, ratings, and food photos to enrich the directory’s authenticity.
5. SEO, Content, and Local Discovery
- Publish regular blog features: cuisine deep-dives, chef profiles, Maltese food tales.
- Target local keywords: “best Valletta restaurants”, “Gzira eats”, “Gozo food tour” etc.
- Optimize images, metadata, structured data (recipes, menus) for search engine visibility.
6. Preparing Infrastructure for Scale
- Enhance backend to support increased traffic, more merchant listings, and mobile concurrency.
- Build redundancy, faster caching, and optimization for mobile networks.
- Plan for multilingual support (English + Maltese) and possibly regional expansion (Gozo or further islands).
Looking Forward to 2025: Vision & Hopes
By 2025, HubpyMalta aspires to be the definitive food & dining hub in Malta, recognized not just by locals and tourists, but by industry players.
Big Goals
- Full merchant adoption: 80%+ of restaurants in main hubs listed, active, and using our tools.
- Content authority: A library of hundreds of high-quality articles and videos on Maltese cuisine and food tourism.
- Recognition: Awards, local press mentions, tourism partner status.
- Healthy metrics: Strong retention, user growth, merchant renewals, and positive ROI for partners.
Why 2025 Matters
- As tourism rebounds and food culture thrives, digital presence will be indispensable.
- The gap between “online” and “physical” in dining is narrowing—users expect seamless discovery, reviews, booking, menus.
- We want HubpyMalta to be a trusted local brand that people rely on for food, lifestyle, and culture in Malta.
